THE VACUUM OF PROTECTION
Through various media, this collection brings to light the hidden and unvoiced fragments of our society. It serves as a visual inquiry into the subjects we habitually overlook or choose to ignore. These works are presented as a series to challenge existing narratives and invite a deeper reflection on the uncomfortable truths within our social structures.

Beyond the Norm
Mixed media on paper, 2024
"In a society built on rigid expectations, a boy and his doll become a radical statement. Their matching 'boy' necklaces reclaim an identity that is often used as a weapon against them. This work confronts the vacuum of protection provided by the state; where 'different' is treated as a provocation, the government’s silence is complicity. A celebration of non-normative existence in the face of institutional indifference
Stop 50 Percent of All Violence
Photography
While violence against women is rightfully condemned, a dark symmetry remains hidden. By altering a public slogan to read 'Stop violence by women,' this work confronts a societal taboo. Statistics in domestic and child abuse reveal a disturbing reality: nearly half of all physical violence is committed by women. This piece challenges the narrative of the 'harmless' female, demanding accountability for a form of abuse that is too often ignored or even rewarded.
Based on a public campaign poster by Un women, photographed on a window and modified by the artist.
Loving your own mother
watercolor on paper 2022 21 x 29 cm
Punishing the love of a child for their own father, mother is not an exception. The erasure of bonds between parents and children should be considered a crime instead of being part of hidden policies.
Born This Way
Pastel on paper, 2024
To walk in the joy of one’s true nature is a triumphant act. This work depicts a boy returning to his original self, accompanied by the innocence of childhood. It speaks to the resilience of identity: though a boyhood may be stolen or suppressed, the core of who we are is indestructible. Even in the deepest shadows of a lost past, the memory of one’s true gender acts as a sliver of sunlight, offering warmth and a path back to the soul.
Violence in the youth care system
Mixed media on paper 179 cm x 78 cm
This work was presented at the exhibition On the Edge (Lutherse Kerk, Maastricht 2022) as a bold protest against both the violence that occurred in the youth care system and the deliberate concealing of it by government entities to protect organizations over the victims.
Homo sacer
Neo- oil pastel on paper 30 x 40 cm 2025
When the state uses LGBTQ+ rights as a badge of 'ultimate freedom,' it often excludes anyone who doesn't fit its narrow definition of a proper citizen. This policy creates a dangerous vacuum for the Homo acer—those who remain outside these protected groups. In this space, where laws and empathy no longer apply, state-driven fascism and police violence are allowed to grow unchecked
Let it snow (2026)
Mixed media on paper, 30 x 40 cm
This work explores the profound journey of reclaiming a boyidentity. It depicts the triumph of a long journey: a body once perceived as adult, now reclaimed and celebrated as a boy. Since 2023, this identity has found its place within the non-binary and MOGAI spectrum. Here, the subject stands in his truth—nude, holding a stuffed animal, a survivor of a childhood where his true self was suppressed and even criminalized. The snow outside no longer chills; the transition is complete, and the inner boy is finally home."
Caterpillar Sexuality
Collage, 2023 (40 x 50 cm)
This collage serves as a visible sign of the complexity within trauma sexuality. Often misunderstood and oversimplified, the reality of these experiences is multifaceted and deeply individual. This work stands against the prejudices and convictions often imposed by others. It asserts that as long as there is no harm, every manifestation of sexuality is valid and should be free from the shadow of shame.
Who's afraid of red?
Acrylic on paper/ collage
The work is based upon gender based violence against boys, which is a forgotten issue in society. It was created in 2024 as a collage on acrylic background, with the question: why are we afraid of young boys to justify gender based violence?
Wrongly wired
pastel on paper 50 x 65 cm
This work, created in 2023 is about the fact people react on their environment and got wired by it. When there is something 'wrong' wit this wire we blame the person and not the environment that created the barbed wire in the brains of the child.
The new Untermensch
Neo oil pastel on paper 30 x 40 cm 2025
In the shadows of the state-protected norm, a new Untermensch is born. Within the confines of the police cell, the voiceless are met with the echoes of history: Nazi rhetoric and brutal methods reborn for a new era. This violence persists not in spite of the state, but through its express approval and the complicit silence of those who claim to guard our morality.
Love over fear
Mixed media 2024
In a world where marginalized identities loose their dignity, it's important to believe in the strongest weapon of humankind: love.
Foster care racism
Mixed media 2023
In the foster care system, 'care' is often a mask for radicalization. While the world looks at the 'foster-to-prison pipeline' abroad, I saw a lethal racism festering within the state's own institutions. I was raised in foster care where I was taught that black people had no right to exist—that they should be drowned in the North Sea. This piece confronts the normalization of that hate within the walls of a system that was never a home.
