About Jimmy (ENGLISH)

Jimmy in 2023

Jimmy Groen (he/him, boy) is a visual artist and illustrator based in Slenaken, the Netherlands — a place where the hills are real, and so are the dreams. He focuses on symbolism, identity, and the softness of social imagination. He is the illustrator behind the poetry of Dutch poet Lennart Willems.

Until 2024, Jimmy worked with pastel, watercolor, digital art and even glass, blending his creative output with his own life story. He sees his art as part of his self-created Magic Paradise — a world inspired by the golden ages of being a boy, especially the ages 8 to 11, when curiosity, movement, and wonder are in full bloom.

Jimmy is known for a multidisciplinary approach and a love for unusual, sometimes avant-garde concepts — like queer youth identity and spatial storytelling. His artwork is exhibited and available through platforms like Kunstinzicht and SoHo Galleri in Sweden.

❤︎ LOVE OVER FEAR ❤︎

As a child, my life was completely from the Dutch state and I could never exist.   The permanent fear and total emptiness  in youth care and foster care found an answer in my art: love over fear.
The series about boys and Black Heart Boys refer to a life in which my art, gender and identity intertwined into a new world.  Beyond the hatred.  Beyond the oppression.  On the way to a new future to exist.
