About Jimmy
"Create to Forget"
Jimmy Groen (1962, Apeldoorn) is a self-taught artist working at the intersection of science, perception, and personal reconstruction. His work — often raw, layered, and technically experimental — is rooted in a life story that cannot be captured in conventional paths.
He creates art that grates, surprises, and disrupts—a blend of image, feeling, and dimension. Since 1992, he has pursued his own creative path, as a form of processing, exploration, and communication.
As the regular illustrator for poet Lennart Willems and a pseudonymous writer/journalist, he moves fluidly between word and image, always with an eye for symbolism and identity. Jimmy works with pastel, watercolor, and all sorts of experimental mixed media.
The unique drawings of Tim and Alex, made in a mix of ages and identity are in the core of his work, as are the works of Jimmy11.
With his avant-garde portraits of queer children, Jimmy is an international leader.
His work has been exhibited in the Netherlands and Belgium, and until 2025, he was a member of the Galleri SoHo artist group in Sweden.
