This article provides a comprehensive background on the collaborative work of Tim, Alex and Jimmy, who make art together in a mix of identity and ages.
First drawings
Although Tim and Alex were always equal parts of me - like many others with me- Tim first appeared in 2015. He is for us usually a three year old boy. In 2016, Alex followed as both a three- and a seven- or eight-year-old and shared in his friendship. It wasn't until 2021 that their creativity became apparent. How? They observed me drawing and painting all the time! They wanted to join me... So they started drawing with their own materials. Their drawings consist of outlines in oil pastels (permanent wax for children) made of objects and subjects from their environment, including their toys, picture books and figures or puppets from videos they watch (especially BING, also my favorite program!).

The process of drawing
In 2021, Jimmy simply kept Tim and Alex's drawings in a folder for months. Then, one day, he started finishing them. Learning to complete the drawings of his co-identities was a process that took several months. Once Tim and Alex's drawings are complete i.e the outlines of what they depict are ready, Jimmy uses mixed media techniques to finish them. His main media are watercolor, oil pastels, soft pastels, ink, gouache paint and ink pen. Their collaborative drawings evolve throughout the process, with both Tim and Alex, as well as Jimmy, contributing. The decision on the topic is always made by Tim and Alex, but the outcome remains unknown. The final pieces are not just the result of the efforts of a child or an adult; they represent a distinctive collaboration between different individuals, from different eras, culminating in Tim and Alex's signature artwork. We make about 10 - 20 pieces per year in collaboration, but both Tim and Alex make more drawings during the year that are unfinished. Since 2021, we have created approximately 50 works together in this way.
Tim and Alex in the public space
Tim and Alex are rarely seen in public. Yet Tim and Alex made their first public appearance during the All-in event at the Bonnefanten Museum in Maastricht in December 2022, where they performed live on stage, drawing on their imagination (Alex on the left, Tim on the right).
Future of their work
Tim and Alex's drawings have evolved a bit over time. Will they continue to make their special drawings? Absolute! They recently asked me to make drawings in gouache paint, but I'm waiting until they're a little older so they don't paint themselves! Before that, they can draw with pastels with real brushes and have fun!

Tim and Alex in Jimmy's work
Over time, Tim and Alex have been drawn and painted many times by Jimmy. Here are some examples of pointillism-like work where they appear.
